In the mosque
- Enter with the right foot and say the dua for entering
- Pray two rakʿahs (tahiyyat al-masjid) when you arrive, outside prohibited times
- Keep your voice low and your phone silent
- Don't step over people who are sitting or praying, and don't walk directly in front of someone praying where you can avoid it
- Leave shoes in the racks or carry them in a bag. Remember the rack number.
- No photos or video during prayer, and be mindful of others at all times
Moving with the crowd
- Walk at a steady pace and don't stop suddenly in the flow
- Never push to reach the Black Stone. Pointing towards it is enough.
- Help the elderly and anyone struggling; keep children's hands in yours
- Follow security staff instructions, even if they redirect you
- Use the marked wheelchair routes and lifts
Looking after yourself
Rest between rites, drink Zamzam and water often, and use the air-conditioned upper floors when the mataf is in full sun. A patient, calm Umrah is a better Umrah.
