Choosing your dates for 2027: crowds, heat and the Hijri calendar

Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier every year. Here's what that means for crowds and weather if you're planning Umrah in 2027.

The Islamic calendar is lunar, so Ramadan arrives about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year. In 2027 it falls mostly in February. That makes Ramadan Umrah unusually mild in temperature, and probably even busier than usual.

What that means

  • February 2027 (Ramadan): pleasant weather and very heavy crowds. Hotels close to the Haram sell out early.
  • The weeks before Ramadan (Rajab and Shaʿban): also busy, with similarly comfortable weather.
  • Spring, around Hajj: Umrah visas usually pause for several weeks. Check the dates before you book anything.
  • Summer: the season reopens after Hajj with lighter crowds, but extreme heat. Plan the rites for the early morning and late evening.
  • Late 2027: cooler weather returns, with winter-holiday crowds in late December.

Our crowd calendar shows the next twelve months at a glance, with the Hijri months alongside.
